After returning from Italy, we were finally able to relax in Beijing. It was great to not have any trips looming on the horizon. We were able to focus on our classes and enjoy Beijing a bit.
Here we are with our Egyptian neighbors at a TGI Fridays that we recently discovered is very close to our school:
We had been reading about the Muslim Quarter of Beijing but had not had a chance to check it out yet. We went with our friend Ethan to the area but were a little underwhelmed. Besides a mosque, there wasn't much there to see.
We did stop at a restaurant where Ethan and Chris each took
shot of lizard baijiu -- alcohol with lizards floating in it. Sounds
delicious.
On the way back from the Muslim Quarter, we saw this girl lighting a
bunch of tealights to spell out Happy Birthday for her friend so we
helped her light them all… It was sweet!
Later in the fall, a couple of my former coworkers from Mission Markets
came out to a conference in Beijing (!). I was so happy they were
here! I got to do some local sightseeing with them, including Tiananmen
Square, Great Wall (with snow!!! that was a first for me), and Xidan.
Before we knew it it was Christmas. This year we left a cookie for Santa and he took a bite!!
Chris got a remote control helicopter for Christmas and here he is playing with it right before it broke. Ahhh made in China.
I don't know what this sign means…
